BLOG: Something's Gotta Give!

What do you wish you had more of in your life right now? If you’re anything like me, the answer is “TIME!” As a creative, enterprising, multi-tasking mom of three, I find myself constantly stretched to my limit, and all too often, past my breaking point. I find myself crawling into bed each night on the verge of collapse thinking, “Something has to change!”

Here’s the thing (please, please listen up, because this is the great big epiphany): It’s not the creative stuff or the enterprising endeavors or the rides back and forth to my kids’ gymnastics practices that are eating up my time. It’s something else that’s getting in the way that’s not allowing me to actually get to these meaningful things I just listed! Its called STUFF.

See if any of these reasons for not having time, energy or the resources to write your business plan, play outside with your kids, cook a delicious dinner at home, plan a trip, or just sit down and soak up the moment… sound familiar to you:

· “I have five loads of laundry to get to;”

· “My house is a mess;”

· “I need to clean out my closet because I can’t fit anything else in;”

· “I’ve got to clean out the fridge, the pantry, (fill in the blank…)”

· “I’ve got to pack for a trip and it’s going to take me hours to sort through everything;”

· “I have tons of bills to pay and papers to file.”

Looking back over the last few years of my life, I realize that there is only one huge thing that needs to change: I need to massively reduce the quantity of physical STUFF in my life so that I can make the space to actually LIVE my life! Less stuff means more time for meaningful relationships and a truly fulfilling life.

In Zero Waste Closet, you’ll take an awesome stuff-clearing journey with me! I start with my closet because, like many of you, that’s where I seem to waste a tremendous amount of my time and resources. Too much to sort through, too much that doesn’t really suit my lifestyle, too much that doesn’t actually add meaning to my life. From my closet, I will move to other areas of my personal world that are squeezing my time and resources with too much stuff, from the bathroom to the pantry, kids’ rooms, office, car, suitcase and more.

If the idea of “space exploration” thrills you, even if you have no idea where to begin or how you’ll survive out there without all of your stuff, come take this journey with me. What awaits us on the other side is undoubtedly true joy and freedom.

Cheers!

Lisa Berry
